For the fifth time, the world of vampires and werewolves collide, and the vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) must once again assume her mantle to bring peace to these two warring worlds. She is joined by fellow vampire David, who will be played by returning actor Theo James. James was first casted in the fourth movie of the franchise, Underworld: Awakening.
The announcement that Beckinsale is returning to the movie as Selene is actually surprising, as just last year, it was announced that she would NOT be reprising her role as Selene. There was much speculation as whether or not James could revive the popularity of the movie franchise, which has taken a dive since the third movie, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
The movie series has been a favorite since it's first release and is considered as one of the pioneer movies where the real score between vampires and werewolves were revealed. The cinematograpy may be dark and shadowy for some but the mystery and intrigues that comes with the cast and the story of the movie kept fans hanging into the next installment of the series. The return of "Underworld 5" in cinemas is something to look forward to despite of the negative reports that came with earlier installment of the series.
Underworld 5 will be directed by first-time movie director Anna Foerster. Foerster's experience in directing in the past has centered heavily in television shows such as Unforgettable and Outlander. However, she boasts a ton of experience as director of photography, working on hits such as The Day After Tomorrow and 10,000 BC. What's more, she can also place "has worked with legendary director Roland Emmerich on White House Down and Anonymous" on her list of achievements.
The script itself, written by Cory Goodman, has been kept under tight wraps. However, he has admitted that the script is more updated, and focuses on a younger generation of werewolves and vampires who are still embroiled in an age-old feud.
Underworld 5 will be filmed in Prague, and is scheduled to begin filming this October. However, no release date has been set.
