Electronic Arts announced a complete reboot of the Need for Speed franchise and will employ an open-world game with a focus on "authentic urban culture" and is set to use the Frostbite Engine. The reboot will be named Need for Speed, and Ghost Games will be the studio developing the reboot, the studio who created Need for Speed: Rivals back in 2013.
According to Marcus Nilsson, the executive producer of Ghost Games, they are going to "return to greatness" being the Need for Speed title is one of the most iconic names in the video game industry. The Need for Speed franchise is worth 20 years of history, and they are making the game like how they always wanted it to be. He also said that they are listening to fans and delivering an experience that will capture the audience's imagination. Passion for cars and speed takes the front seat in the development of the Need for Speed reboot.
EA also added along with the announcement, that it is collaborating Need for Speed with Speedhunters, "an international collective of photographers, writers, and drivers with a shared passion for digging up the most exciting stories surrounding Car Culture happening anywhere in the world." They decided to collaborate with such group in order to have the highest feel in details and authenticity of the game. Last year, Nilsson already stated that EA decided to skip releasing a new Need for Speed title in 2015, so the announcement is not an unexpected announcement. Need for Speed will also use the Frostbite Engine, the engine that was used in Dragon Age: Inquisition and is currently being used in Star Wars: Battlefront.
Need for Speed is a racing game that evolved through the years and touched all the racing sub-genres. More information is expected to be unveiled in EA's press conference in E3 2015, schedule being the 15th of June, 1PM / 4PM. Need for Speed reboot is being developed by Ghost Games with Electronic Arts as the publisher with a Fall 2015 release date for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
