‘Mulan,’ ‘Winnie the Pooh’ Live Action in Talks for Production at Disney; Another Childhood Favorites Ruined?

"Mulan" and "Winnie the Pooh" are apparently getting their respective live action movies as decided by Walt Disney. "Mulan" may be possible to pull off but "Winnie the Pooh" live action is not receiving nods of approval by critics.

With the success of the company's live-action adaptations of the classic childhood favorites to attract modern viewers, it seems that more once cartoon plays are becoming full-live films in the coming years as dictated by the gross sales of their predecessors.

The sudden announcement has been greatly motivated by the release of "Cinderella" that starred Lily James which has earned $336.2 million worldwide since three weeks ago.

Just last year, "Maleficent" featuring the caring villain Angelina Jolie who portrayed the title character herself garnered an encouraging $758.4 million hits in the box office.

In 2010, the live-action of "Alice in Wonderland" crossed the billion-mark grossing a staggering $1.02 billion in which only big movies such as the "Fast and Furious" franchise can usually hit.

It comes as no-brainer that Disney will want to immediately follow-up these live-action adaptations to keep the momentum and "Mulan" might actually prove to be a good decision.

It has, in fact, assembled the immediate staff to work on the said movie. The script comes from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek. Chris Bender and J.C. Spink ("We're the Millers") are producing the new project with Jake Weiner.

The story centers on the Chinese legend of "Hua Mulan," the female warrior who was the main character in Disney's 1998 animated film.

Following this announcement, Disney also included "Winnie the Pooh" in the long lines of its live-action adaptations which has bewildered both fans and critics on how they would introduce Winnie the Pooh without covering his naked cuddly abdomen.

Some also straight-out pulled up a negative reaction on the matter saying it would ultimately ruin the image of Christopher Robin as an adult.

Disney has hired Alex Ross Perry, the writer-director of the Sundance indie "Listen Up Philip" to create the new "Winnie the Pooh" movie.

While "Mulan" and "Winnie the Pooh" will still remain untouched as one of the classic children stories of all time in their cartoon versions, the new live-action adaptations are surely going to be made to appeal to the mainstream adult audience as well - just as how the other Disney adaptations were created.
