"Star Wars: Battle Pod" will now be available in the living rooms for a hefty price tag. Namco Bandai has announced a home version of the aerial battle arcade game. Any game from the arcade cabinet does not come cheap. The new version will be available for $35,000/£24,000 plus shipping.
Starting on June 18, fans can bring the experience into their homes for the first time. "Star Wars: Battle Pod" was launched as an arcade game at the beginning of the year, but is now being sold directly to gamers in two different versions. While the standard comes at $35,000, gamers will have to dish out a whopping $100,000 for the Premium Edition.
The latter comes with custom leather seats synchronized to move and react to the action of the game, exclusive carpet, and a specially bound owner's manual. Purchasers can also decide between the Rebel-themed version and the Vader-emblazoned one. It will also contain the owners name along with a product serial number engraved plate on a side plate, besides; owners will even have their name added to the game ending credits.
Further purchasing details will be announced after mid-June on the game's official website. "Star Wars: Battle Pod" were made available in arcades in North America, Europe and Japan back in January. The promotional video shows that the right joystick steers whatever vehicle you're piloting while the left controls thrust. The curved screen gives the player an immersive experience not unlike an IMAX theater. The unit also feature a movable seat, 5.1 surround sound, and air blasts, making this kind of a playable version of Disney World's Star Tours attraction. The various levels of the game include air battles dubbed Yavin, Hoth, Endor, Death Star II, and Vader's Revenge.
"Star Wars: Battle Pod" game originated from the "Star Wars" film that was released in 1997. In the film, Luke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a wookiee and two droids to save the universe from the Empire's world-destroying battle-station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the evil Darth Vader.
