Nvidia's GeForce GTX 980 Ti Sits Midway Between Titan X, GTX 980; 4K Gaming Compatible, Maxwell GPU, 12GB VRAM and More

By

Nvidia has just released its new powerful weapon in the new Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the latest, most reasonable graphics card in the digital industry to date.

The new card succeeds the 2014 release of the GeForce GTX 980, with only about a hundred dollars difference between the two high performing graphics card. The Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti however is closer to the Titan X in specifications. This is a much reasonable exchange considering the price difference between the Titan X and the GeForce GTX 980 Ti is $350.

The new card is built with the same Nvidia flagship Maxwell architecture GM200 GPU as the powerful Titan X with a reduced VRAM by half, 6GB from Titan X's 12GB. Games today have yet to reach the powerful processing of 12GB VRAM, and while gamers sit and wait for software development to catch up to engineering evolution, the new GeForce GTX 980 Ti has enough VRAM to run graphics-heavy, 4K gaming.

The following information is a breakdown of the specs of the GeForce GTX 980, GeForce GTX 980 Ti, and the flagship high end card GeForce GTX Titan X:

Specs GTX 980 GTX 980 Ti GTX Titan X

GDDR5 RAM 4GB 6GB 12GB

CUDA Cores 2048 2816 3072

Base clock 1126 MHz 1000 MHz 1000 MHz

Boost clock 1216 MHz 1075 MHz 1075 MHz

Memory clock 7GHz 7GHz 7GHz

Texture units 128 176 192

ROP units 64 96 96

TDP 250W 250W 250W

Launch price $550 $650 $1000

So far the only true difference between the high performing GeForce GTX Titan X flagship and the newly released GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the Titan X's 12GB GDDR5. Base clock, boost clock, and memory clock are leveled the same for both the Titan X and the Ge Force GTX 980. A comparative analysis is available via Extremetech.com where test results for the performance of the card can be found, along with a comparative breakdown of the card's performance against the recently released direct competition AMD Radeon R9 295X2.

The new Nvidia GTX 980 Ti is a good, high performing card that is available in the market to day, and with specifications that match the high performing Titan X with very slight modifications, it's the best price that gamers can get in terms of good quality performance and logevity.
