Long before George R.R Martin depicted medieval sex, ferocity and supernaturalism on television through the hit series "Game of Thrones", Shakespeare has already introduced them a few centuries back in one of his popular tragedies, "Macbeth". On Thursday, the trailer of the Shakesperean masterpiece has been finally released, showing Michael Fassbender as one of English playwright's most bloodthirsty tragic heroes.
"Macbeth" is a story about a fearless and ambitious Scottish general who kills the King of Scotland and takes the throne for himself after discovering a prophecy from three witches. Its trailer, according to Bustle, showed the beautifully dark but gory feels of the story as if the director, Justin Kurzel, wants its viewers to fall into madness right along with Macbeth.
Fassbender (12 Years a Slave, X-Men: Days of Future Past) who played the role of the vicious general was seen in the video feeling guilty of Macbeth's actions which triggers him to start killing for sport. With the fear of being overpowered by someone, he becomes an oppressive ruler who is fond of shedding blood to maintain order.
Other than Fassbender, Coming Soon reports that Kurzel's "Macbeth" also stars Academy Award Winner Marion Cotillard ("La Vie en Rose", "The Dark Knight Rises"), David Thewlis ("The Theory of Everything"), Elizabeth Debicki ("The Man from U.N.C.L.E."), Jack Reynor ("Transformers: Age of Extinction"), Sean Harris ("Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation") and Paddy Considine ("Child 44").
According to We Are Movie Geeks, the film had its World Premiere at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival which was last film to screen in Competition. It is set to open in United Kingdom cinemas later this year on October 2.
As for Fassbender, he along with "Macbeth" co-star Cotillard and director Kurzel is set to reteam in the forthcoming movie adaptation of the historical video game "Assassin's Creed" which is set to premiere on December 21, 2016.
