‘Ghostbusters 3’ Update: Paul Feig focused on all-female reboot with Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones

The "Bridesmaids" director, Paul Feig, has been straightforward about how much he wanted the forthcoming reboot of Ghostbusters to be an all-female version. It turns out that this ambition has caused him to turn down the offer of directing "Ghostbusters 3" to try a new approach with the franchise, involving Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

During a promotional interview with AlloCine for his latest comedy film "Spy", Paul Feig revealed that he was originally given an opportunity to direct the third film in a traditional style. However, the 52-year-old director had to reject the offer because he did not know exactly what to do about it.

"I just kept turning it down because I didn't know how to do it. The scripts had been written, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I wasn't excited about it," he said.

It appears that the director, according to The Guardian, is already determined to focus the reboot on a new group of women which includes Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Saturday Night Live stars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.

"I thought, if I could put four women in the lead roles, that's exciting to me," he explained. "That I know how to do, and I know how to make that funny. And there's so many funny women I've been dying to work with."

According to him, aside from wanting to work with funny actresses, he also wished to do something different from the original movies this time. IGN reports that Feig is already set to begin the production of his all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot in Boston and New York soon.

Even though Feig chose to detour in a female version instead of the traditional one, "Ghostbusters" fans do not need to worry because Sony has also revealed that the male version will still happen, probably starring "Magic Mike" actor Channing Tatum.
