The reboot of the 1994 fantasy action film "The Crow" is changing its main villain from male to female as actress Andrea Riseborough is currently in talks to play the villainous Top Dollar. Meanwhile, James O'Barr revealed in a statement that shooting begins later this year.
Actress Andrea Riseborough (Birdman) was reported to be in negotiations to play the lead villain Top Dollar of the "The Crow" reboot, Deadline reports. This portrayal by Riseborough will switch the gender of the film's villain from male to female as the role was originally played by Michael Wincott in the 1994 movie based on James O'Barr's comic book with the same name.
O'Barr's "The Crow" centers on Eric Draven (Jack Huston) and his fiancée Shelly Webster (Jessica Brown Findlay). The two are mugged by a gang of street thugs, to which they were killed eventually. Draven was brought back to life because of a crow and goes on for revenge against the murderous syndicate, which is led by Top Dollar.
The late Brandon Lee led the 1994 film as rocker Eric, together with Sofia Shinas as Shelly. Wincott played as the leader of the ragtag evil syndicate Top Dollar along with his lover/half-sister Myca, played by Bai Ling.
Riseborough is known for her role as Laura Aulburn in the 2014 black comedy film "Birdman." She also starred in the 2013 sci-fi film "Oblivion" as Victoria Olsen.
The movie is being produced by Edward R. Pressman, Kevin Misher, Relativity Media's CEO Ryan Kavanaugh, and Jeff Waxman. Relativity's president Tucker Tooley and The Weinstein Company's Harvey and Bob Weinstein serve as executive producers. O'Barr is the film's consultant. In a statement, O'Barr stated that filming will commence in Pinewood Studios in Wales and Belgium doubling for Detroit in Summer 2015.
The movie is set to hit theaters on 2016. Are you excited for "The Crow" reboot? Sound off your comments below.
