The sequel to the 1982 movie Conan the Barbarian is on the go and Arnold Schwarzenegger will reprise his role in The Legend of Conan. Big news is, there is a possibility that Conan will be part of a cinematic world.
Schwarzenegger will be back on the big screen as his breakthrough role in 1982 as Conan the Barbarian.
The man who acquired to the rights of al the creation of Robert E. Howard is Fredrik Malmberg. These creations include fictional characters Conan, Solomon Kane, Kull the Conqueror, and others.
Malmberg plans to use all Howard's character and put it into one cinematic universe, joining the likes of Marvel and DC cinematic universe. If the The Legend of Conan becomes a success, that is.
It is said that The Legend of Conan will kick start this planned cinematic universe of Howard.
Since The Legend of Conan is a sequel to the Conan the Destroyer, it is given that their is a huge possibility that Arnold will reprise his role as Conan, King of the Barbarians. But some people are doubting the capability of the 67 year old star.
The Legend of Conan plot takes place 30 years after the Conan the Destroyer.
Malmberg told Deadline that "it's 30 years after the original film, and he's facing his mortality and how a legend deals with the fact he's older, and how does he want to go out."
Chris Morgan, producer and co-writer, also said in a different interview, "Our tone is a logical extension of the character established in the '82 film...but 30 years later. When we meet him again, Conan has been many things over the course of his life - a thief, a warrior, a pirate, a king, a legend - and is now an older man. Think Unforgiven...with a sword-wielding barbarian."
Malmberg plans to start filming this fall 2015. Aside from that, there are no more details about the upcoming Conan movie.
The initial release of The Legend of Conan was last year, 2014. But obviously that did not push through. With the filming to start soon, we might get more news about the movie.
