Vodafone was spotted giving instructions through an email to its staff to accept pre-orders of the Apple "New iPhone" starting on September 18, with its release date on September 25 in the UK.
Vodafone reportedly told their staff the specific date of the Apple iPhone 6s, iPhone 7.
"Vodafone has told internal staff the next Apple iPhone handset will be released on September 25," said Mobile News Online.
Mobile News Online was also able to see the email in which the operator reportedly outlined the details of the pre-launch date. In it, the operator was told take pre-orders for the device starting September 18.
Further in the email, it described the device not as iPhone 6s or iPhone 7 but as "New iPhone." This is said to suggest that Apple might be planning on implementing its previous strategy it had with the iPad through "not giving it (the upcoming iPhone) a number (7)."
If this would turn out to be as it is, there might not be an iPhone 6s, iPhone 7 at all on release date, but simply "New iPhone."
Other media publication seems to find this leaked "New iPhone" release date as true, though taking it as well with a grain of salt. Further, the email was not also shown, which would need another set of evidence.
"One thing is clear: it's a Friday, and Apple has traditionally launched its iPhones on Fridays, for what it's worth. As for pre-orders, those are set to go live exactly one week earlier, on September 18," said GSMArena.
It should be noted that the alleged release date leak were for the United Kingdom. However, the United States release timeline coincides also with the date in the UK. Hence, the information is also applicable in the US.
As for the name, it is also speculated that the operator could possibly have no knowledge yet about the exact name of the iPhone, thus, the moniker "New iPhone." But again it is also deemed possible that Apple could "actually call it the 'new iPhone' - a strategy it's tried before for the iPad with disappointing results." Therefore, fans might have to consider three possible names: iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, or "New iPhone."
But then again, Apple is yet to make official statements. Hence, these should be taken with a grain of salt.
