Android 5.1 bringing VoLTE support in Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo on June 10; skips ‘buggiest’ Android 5.0

The long wait of Motorola Droid Turbo owners will be over on June 10 as the device is set to receive the Android Lollipop 5.1 update, skipping 'buggiest' Android 5.0 and 5.0.2 altogether. The upgrade will bring in the awaited support for VoLTE.

The 5.1 update is going to be a "big leap" for the Droid Turbo since the handset is running Android Kitkat 4.4.4. Further, the "big leap" was mainly due to Android 5.1 version's support for VoLTE, while the 5.0 did not have it.

"The standard Lollipop version was skipped because it lacked the support for VoLTE, which is a central feature to every Verizon handset. But now that Android 5.1 Lollipop is ready for takeoff, it won't be long before Moto Droid Turbo owners enjoy the vibrant animations from the new Material Design," said ChristianToday.

Though not exactly the reason as to why Verizon skipped Android 5.0, the bugs found in the version may also played a part for it.

"With Droid Turbo skipping all the versions before Android 5.1 Lollipop, the smartphone's owners will not be subjected to the many flaws that plagued the earliest iterations of Google's new mobile operating system. While Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of the biggest updates to the operating system, it is also one of the buggiest," noted Tech Times.

It should also be noted that the update is rolled in phases, which implies that the upgrade would arrive in some Motorola Droid Turbo devices later than June 10.

"Well, there's confirmation now that the update for this device is finally going to be released on June 10^th. Given the fact that software updates are rolled out in stages, all users shouldn't expect to receive it on June 10th, but they should rest assured once the roll out starts that the update will arrive on their handset in the very near future," reported Ubergizmo (blog).

However, users can check on the update (build version 23.11.23) manually through giong to Settings>About Device>Software Update>Check for Updates.

The Motorola Droid Turbo is the smartphone made exclusive for U.S. carrier Verizon.
