“The 69th Annual Tony Awards”: Kristin Chenoweth And Alan Cumming Superb Hosting; Speeches and Epic-Fail Performances Highlighted

By

The 69th Annual Tony Awards has just finished and critics would generally agree that this is a historic night for winners at the same the organizers have gotten the hosts perfect for the job.

But before discussing the winners and performances, the first order of this article should be the hosts. According to the report of Hollywood Reporter, this year's Annual Tony Awards hosts were doing a wonderful job. Hosts Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming were said to be the right blend. Hosts tandem seemed to fail since James Franco and Anne Hathaway did pair up in the 2011 Oscars. But this year's hosts were breakthrough from doing away that "flattering yardstick" so to speak. Many have observed that the pair was "just the right combination of cute, cheeky and respectful."

Yes, it was also noted that the opening spot was not overly impressive, and may have drawn less positive impact. However the two brought in their charm the whole time. Their style of integrating the featured songs into their commercial break signoffs to an extent appeared "clever and disarmingly cheesy."

Chenoweth has performed well in her number and has hit her high notes while looking effortless, yet Josh Groban has been observed that he wasn't at his vocal best when he did his number as tribute Tommy Tune.

But that's just the Hollywood Reporter saying good points regarding the hosts and other performances because others have different opinions. Take for example the opinion of the reporter/ writer of Gold Derby website. It was said in the article that the hosts', Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, banter fell flat and forced. The writer may be right by his observation concerning the hosting abilities. Also, he didn't fail to mention some wonderful performances that occurred during the award. One of which is the impressive acceptance speech of some winners.

The first that was given praise in the article was Alex Sharp who won best actor in a Play for "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time." Sharp has championed people who "feel different to accomplish their dreams." As for Michael Cerveris' speech, he had mentioned the name of Bruce Allen Bechdel, Alison Bechdel's dad, who wished for the Supreme Court to rule in support of Marriage equality. Richard McCabe, surprise winner of Best Featured Actor in a Play, said in his speech that many Americans don't know the man he portrayed, Harol Wilson. He's the Prime Minister of UK from 1964 to 1970 and again from 1974 to 1976.

Another big winner reported by Chicago Tribune is the "Fun homes" for Best Musical. This play is about the "richly complex early life of the cartoonist Alison Bechdel." Other awards garnered by "Fun Homes" are the best score (composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist Lisa Kron, best book of Musical ( Lisa Kron), best leading actor in a musical (Michael Cerveris), and best director (Sam Gold).

The complete list of winners can be viewed at Tony Awards Official Website.

To go over the entire show of The 69th Annual Tony Awards Night, it was indeed a success. Others may not like the hosting skills of Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, the acceptance speeches of other winners, or performances of actors and singers, but at the end of the day what matter most is that the award's night is another historic event for the winners.
