Actor Ryan Gosling is currently in talks with Alcon Entertainment for the Blade Runner 2, sequel of 1982 sci-fi film. He will take the lead role in the upcoming sequel, as the original movie's lead actor, Harrison Ford will take the supporting role.
Alcon Entertainment broke the story that they are currently communicating with Gosling for a role in the film. Although they didn't reveal the character that Gosling will portray, they said that the movie will be divided into a three-part act and Ford, who will reprise his character as Rick Deckard, and will be part of the last act. With this, many speculated that the character offered to Gosling might be the lead role.
Rick Scott who directed the original movie will not be the director this time, as he will now be the movie's executive producer. Although he's no longer the director, his ideas for the film will still be implemented as he wrote the draft of the script with Hampton Fancher. The script was later revised by Fancher and Michael Green. The script is said to be ready as of the moment and ready to go.
The film's producers, Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove from Alcon Entertainment complimented the writers and said about Fancher and Green, "Hampton and Michael, with Ridley, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn't be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team."
It will be directed by Dennis Villenueve who directed the movie 'Prisoners' and cinematography by Oscar-nominated Roger Deakins.
The movie will take place decades after and an older Rick Deckard can be seen.
The original movie was set in a futuristic overpopulated Los Angeles, where Rick Deckard hunts android outlaws called replicants. He came back from retirement to hunt 4 replicants who came to the earth from their off-world colony.
Although the release date hasn't been announced yet, filming for the Blade Runner 2 will start in 2016.
