A new patch for the Final Fantasy XV demo introduces players to a new, monstrous boss along with some gameplay fixes.
Starting with the new boss, it's known as the Catoblepas, and it's a monster that is familiar to fans of the Final Fantasy franchise. According to Kotaku, the Catoblepas was merely just a part of the scenery in the earlier version of the demo, but now it's threatening to wipe out the party.
The Catoblepas follows in the long line of gigantic bosses Final Fantasy has rolled out in earlier entries in the franchise, so it figures to be yet another monumental challenge for players to overcome.
Along with the introduction of the Catoblepas are new gameplay tweaks coming to the demo.
The new additions come in a variety of forms, with some introducing new attacks and others simply meant to smooth things out.
Specific tweaks include new cooperation attacks born from ally suggestions as well as a change to the mechancics of consecutive attacks, according to Siliconera.
Players now also have more areas to warp to in the game, and gameplay elements such as attack power and MP usage have also been tweaked to better balance things out.
Camera movement has also been addressed with the new patch, according to Gamespot. Cameras are now capable of keeping track of fast-moving enemies onscreen, negating the unfair advantage they had over players.
The party's AI has also been adjusted, and there are now individual action quests players can also undertake.
While the fixes are certainly welcome, it is still highly unusual for what is basically a demo to get an entirely dedicated update. It may just be Square Enix's way of testing things out for the game, or it may be an indicator that Final Fantasy XV is still a ways away and the company wants to tide fans over.
Regardless, fans have no other choice than to play the updated demo to get their Final Fantasy XV as the game remains without an official release date.
