It was not too long ago that Google released the ever anticipated Android 5.1 update code named "Android L" or simply Android Lollipop, a kind of naming patterned after known sweets which Google have been using since Android 1.6 when it was named Android Donut, followed by Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, and KitKat which precedes the latest OS version.
Coming to smartphone devices by the end of the year is another update of the loved operating system by Google, Android 5.2.
While as early as right now, there has been already a preview of the supposed update in the Android operating system dubbed as the "Android M" whose final name we have yet to see early next year, the mention of which was conducted by Google itself during the Google I/O 2015 event which was held on May 28 and May 29, 2015, Android 5.2 may indeed be Lollipop and not the "Android M preview" mentioned in the said event. Were this to be the case, users may be seeing Android M as either Android 5.3, if not Android 6.0
Although concrete information regarding Android M is still scarce at the moment, it is certain that Android 5.2 may already be in the wild needing only porting to some units that meet its requirements. As of the present, chances are good that the preview version of Android M will likely make it to both Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 units, followed suit by other Nexus devices.
Despite the hype pertaining to the upcoming release of Android M, there are still good reasons to look forward to the Android 5.2 update. The said update is said to address the issues that were left with the existing Android 5.1 update specifically on the most prevalent issue of "memory leaks" which renders the unit running on it sluggish, even inefficient as far as the management of running applications is concerned.
The Android 5.2 update may already be available for testing yet is going through further fixes and improvements and is the likely reason there is not yet an official word on it.
