DICE aims for Back-to-Back Comic Series and Video Game Release: Mirror's Edge: Exordium in September, Mirror's Edge: Catalyst in 2016

By

DICE's upcoming Mirror's Edge: Catalyst video game is more like a reboot than a sequel to the original. How's that distinction is going to affect the game isn't clear yet, until the E3 comes next week where it will be shown.

Mirror's Edge: Exordium

Prior to its 2016 release, a new comic-series, called Mirror's Edge: Exordium, will be released later this year. This will explore the origin of Faith Connors, the protagonist in this series, as well as in Mirror's Edge: Catalyst, DICE's Mirror's Edge official new video game name for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Exordium, which means "an introduction to something, will shed light to the origin of Faith, a backstory that gamers new to the series will likely benefit from. The comics will, therefore, tell Faith's story from her young careless days and earlier until she becomes the heroine that she is now.

Art Cover for First Issue, Video Game

The cover of the Exordium's first issue has been released, including the name of narrative director Cristofer Emgard and art directors Mattias Haggstrom and Robert Sammelin. Erik Persson and Emgard will also be a part of the art department. The 32-page, six-issue Exordium will be released in September for $4.

Likewise, Catalyst's art cover has been revealed on Amazon UK. The cover shows Faith in her iconic get-up while kneeling on a ledge. The covers are for PS4 and Xbox One. No further details have been released yet, except that the Mirror's Edge: Catalyst will not be a sequel to the first game.

DICE on Mirror's Edge New Name

The DICE team decided to go to this route because, as DICE Senior Producer Sara Jansson said yesterday during the announcement of Mirror's Edge official new name, "[we knew the game] could be more." So aside from exploring the possibilities beyond the game's heroine, there will also be "a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players," Jansson excitedly added.

Mirror's Edge: Catalyst 2016 release date will also be announced at the E3. The new Exordium series is published by Dark Horse Comics in partnership with DICE and Electronic Arts.
