YG Entertainment frontrunner girl group 2NE1 gets music industry go haywire with its rumored disbandment.
The four-membered South Korean girl group is unquestionably one of the biggest driving forces in K-pop's international expansion. The quartet was the first Korean female group to stage a world tour.
Their recent album "Crush" which was released on February 2014 was voted as the most favorite girl group album on Billboard's Girl Group Week. The group was also voted as the most fashionable girl group, earning 30% of the votes in the category.
They also proved themselves to be the digital queens as they top Gaon's Digital Song, their sales being on a whole different level compared to their competitors.
Globally, they are proving themselves to be one of the best with their "I am the Best" topping the Billboard's Digital Songs Chart earning them the title First K-pop Group to Top the Billboard Chart.
In actuality, the rumors of the break-up had been around for quite a long time but it fueled on October 2014 when 2NE1 member Minzy deleted her social media accounts and created an Instagram account set to private.
She changed her account name from "minzy21mz" to "minzy_mz", deleting the "21," and also changed her introduction to "official 2NE1 minzy" to "official minzy", again eliminating "2NE1." As soon as the rumors sparked, Minzy changed her Instagram setting from public to private, and retrieved her original ID.
A YG Entertainment representative then revealed in a statement to TenAsia on October 17 that "2NE1's disbandment is a ridiculous story" putting an end to the hearsays.
However, the said disbandment issues resurfaced this year and it was apparently spread by an agency personnel, "As someone from YG Entertainment, it looks like 2NE1 is on the road down to their disbandment. Leader CL is planning her promotions in the States while Sandara Park is planning to focus on acting."
The affiliate did not reveal any plans set for members Minzy or Park Bom by the company.
The rumors seem to have found its way up again because there is no imminent comeback announced for the four divas. They also seem to have been backed up by the fact that 2NE1 did not appear in the recent party of YANG's launch of the restaurant the "3rdStreet Butchers."
Although 2NE1's contract remains valid until next year, many were speculating whether or not YG Entertainment and the group will continue to produce music in the future.
After much hype, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk stepped up the podium to reject the rumors.
"There is absolutely no truth to the breakup rumors of 2NE1. This is not even worth responding to. We don't understand where this is coming from. 2NE1 will be back with a new album this year," YG stressed in a statement.
No comeback date has been set for 2NE1 but with the assurance of an album to be released this year calms Blackjacks (2NE1 fanbase) with the thought that the group will not cease to exist because of the disbandment rumors.
