Project Morpheus VR Device is: Sony's Highlight at E3

By

With the rising popularity of virtual reality technology and its eventual full implementation already on the horizon, Sony, along with other pioneers of VR technology, are joining the bandwagon that adds up to the hype and is Sony's main focus on this upcoming E3.

Unlike the somewhat lackluster outcome seen with the implementation PlayStation Move based on customer and developer support back in the days prior to PlayStation 4, Sony's virtual reality device, Project Morpheus, will be having full support upon launch.

This is evidenced by the claims that "around half" of Sony's E3 booth space will be utilized for Morpheus and will be in display to include first-party titles exclusive to Project Morpheus that showcase the PlayStation 4's processing power and is a representation of Sony's "big push" for this piece of technology, as mentioned in PlayStation Lifestyle. This meant that games available for other virtual reality devices such as Oculus Rift or other similar device will not be part of the display.

In terms of the number of games expected to utilize the power of Project Morpheus for gaming, Shuhei Yoshida, Sony Worldwide Studios President, had this to say as told to Game Informer, "I think we will have quite a good number of games at launch, because they are already in development."

Earlier rumors suggest that we won't be seeing the VR device by Sony on shelves until the first quarter of 2016, however, a later report claims that the commercial release is more certain on the second quarter of the same year, likely before July being the soonest.

However, if Japanese newspaper, Asahi, is to be taken for its report regarding Sony's intended release of the device before June, then we are more than likely to see Project Morpheus sooner than otherwise expected.

We are already halfway for next year and Project Morpheus is shaping to be how Sony expects it to be. Call it a retribution for Sony's unexpected failure with PlayStation Move, but if they get it right, Project Morpheus might be worthy of the hype and one that actually delivers for Sony, its supporting companies, and the customers that will use it.
