Elizabeth Banks is in talks to direct Red Queen. The new fantasy film will be an adaptation from a young adult novel with the likes of Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games, in which the actress starred in the latter.
The Guardian reports that Elizabeth Banks, who had the successful musical film Pitch Perfect 2 as her directorial debut, is in negotiations with Universal to direct Red Queen. Red Queen, a young adult fantasy novel by 24-year old Victoria Aveyard, is planned to be adapted into a movie by Breaking Bad writer Gennifer Hutchison. The story revolves around Mare, a 17-year old red-blooded servant of the silver-bloods who are considered as the elite. Mare discovers that she also has magical powers as the silver-bloods which bring her to a new and treacherous world which she adapts to in order to live.
Red Queen is the first novel of a trilogy that is still in the making. Author Aveyard admits she wrote the novel as a movie. Red Queen has a dystopian setting just like The Hunger Games.
The Hindu reports that Red Queen is also similar with Game of Thrones, Cinderella and X-men. Elizabeth Bank's Pitch Perfect 2 earned $161 million in the U.S. and $250 million worldwide.
Coming Soon adds that the plot of Red Queen will include Mare being forced by the King to play as the lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his sons. As she journeys into the world of the Silver, she takes advantage of her new position to help a red-blooded rebellion despite her new world stopping her from doing so. There she will encounter her possible death if she betrays her newfound world.
No release date yet has been announced for Red Queen. The book meanwhile is currently New York's No. 1 Best-Seller.
