Sony Xperia Z4 and Z3+ both have overheating issues which the Japan-based tech maker promised to resolve this summer through a software update. Sony acknowledged that such an issue exists on those models immediately after they received complaints from device users.
Both Xperia Z4 and Z3+ run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, the same chipset that other smartphone makers have shunned such as Samsung. According to reports, Sony used a revised version of the chipset for better thermal regulation.
Temporary Fix
While waiting for the promised software update this summer, Sony suggests turning off the said devices several times a day, especially when charging the smartphone. It also recommends that Sony Xperia Z3+ and Z4 owners contact Sony action center if the problem persists for no apparent reason.
In a performance test conducted in the Netherlands, the unit overheats after playing games, recording videos, and watching Netflix videos in HD. The Snapdragon 810 SoC could turn as hot as 154 degrees Fahrenheit as shown on the CPU-Z system identification tool.
Release Date in UK
The Z3+ will not be available in stores until June 26. In pre-order schemes, the device will be delivered on June 15. Carphone Warehouse is one firm that offers the device for pre-order, and has exclusive grab on the Ice Green model. The bundle includes a pair of HQ audio MDR10-RC Sony headphones, six Hi-Res audio albums, and 90 days free music streaming on in-demand site Tidal. Pre-order cost can start at £31.99 per month with a £59.99 upfront cost. Mobile Fun and Clove also take pre-orders at a price of £549 for the white and black models.
One and the same Device
The Xperia Z4 and Z3+ are one and the same flagship smartphone from Sony. In Japan, where it is first launched, it's called the former and the latter everywhere else in the world. The Z3+ is the successor of Sony's last year flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3.
The Xperia Z3+ (Z4) is also waterproof, lighter and thinner than the flagship phone it follows, and comes with camera and audio boosts too. It is also replaced with a new Snapdragon 801 processor, the culprit behind the overheating issues device users are having now.
