'Doctor Strange' Spoilers Update: Chiwetel Ejiofor’s villain role to be toned down; Film set for 2016 Premiere

12 Year's a Slave and 2012's Chiwetel Ejiofor's role as the villain sorcerer Baron Mordo opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange will not be completely evil. The Marvel Comics-adapted film will be released on November 4, 2016.

DOCTOR STRANGE'S FRENEMY

Business Insider confirmed that Oscar winner Chiwetel Ejiofor will play as Doctor Strange's (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) enemy. Benedict and Ejiofor both starred in 12 Years a Slave which received various awards last year. It clarified though that Ejiofor's role as an antagonist will be toned down compared to his character Marvel comics. He will be a mixture of characters based on Doctor Strange's myth.

According to Deadline, Doctor Strange and Mordo are both students of mystic Tibetan sorcerer The Ancient One. However, unlike Doctor Strange, Mordo uses black magic for his own interests and even plans to kill his mentor. Docotr Strange exposes the murder plot to The Ancient One which makes Strange in for the running to becoming Earth's Sorcerer Supreme. The Ancient One banishes Mordo which starts the gap between him and Doctor Strange.

BRITISH CAST

Tilda Swinton is said to be negotiated to play as The Ancient One and if that happens, she joins an almost-British cast, says The Guardian. The Ancient One is actually a male character but Disney decided to make it different this time. Among The Ancient One's powers include teleportation, astral powers, as well as the ability to make energy explosions. Doctor Stephen Strange meanwhile is first introduced as an arrogant neurosurgeon who acquires supernatural powers after a terrible accident.

Scott Derrickson, the Director behind The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose will direct Doctor Strange. Jon Spaihts, the screenplay writer for Prometheus will also be behind the movie.

Doctor Strange is expected to be at par with other superheroes from comic books that are being made into movies. The upcoming Marvel Movie is set to premiere on November 4, 2016 in the silverscreen.
