20th Century Fox's highly anticipated live-action movie "Gambit" which stars Channing Tatum has taken a step closer to the big screen. The "X-Men" spinoff which is due for an October 2016 release has finally acquired its perfect director - Rupert Wyatt.

It was only last year when "Magic Mike" star Channing Tatum was confirmed to take up the role of the card-playing, bo-staff wielding and fan-favorite mutant, Gambit. Working as a producer as well, the 35-year-old actor has been working hard to find the film a director.

Spearheading the project, Tatum has tapped Bennett Miller ("Fox Catcher", "Moneyball") and Darren Aronofsky ("Noah", "Black Swan") to direct the film but according to Inquistr, both filmmakers have turned down the offer. Though this situation is normally not a big deal, it became a need for "Gambit" as Fox has already announced its premiere date.

Fortunately, Tatum's long hunt finally came to an end. Entertainment Weekly has recently revealed that Rupert Wyatt, the helmer behind 2011's "Rise of The Planet Apes" and 2014's "The Gambler", has already signed on for the"X-Men" spin-off solo movie. No other details about the forthcoming film has been disclosed yet but considering the 42-year-old filmmaker's resume in the field, "Gambit" will surely be on the list of the 2016 movies to look forward to.

According to Variety, the character of Gambit was created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. Raised in New Orleans, he is an expert in card-throwing and is capable of creating, controlling, and manipulating kinetic energy through his mind.

Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg is producing the movie alongside Tatum and his partner, Reid Carolin. Wyatt will be directing the film with a screenplay from Josh Zetumer. This will be Fox's eight "X-Men" film following "X-Men: Apocalypse" which is slated to premiere May 27, 2016.

"Gambit" will hit the big screen October 7, next year and will face off against Warner Bros.' "Live by Night" and Universal's "Monster High."
