The fifth installment of the "Transformers" franchise is rumored to hit the big screen in 2017 without Michael Bay in the director's chair. However, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" star Mark Wahlberg claims that the franchise director will not be dropping the directorial baton yet for "Transformers 5".
It was noted by Christian Post that even before "Transformers: Age of Extinction" debuted in the cinemas June last year, Michael Bay has already claimed of leaving the directorial duties of the franchise's future projects to the hands of other filmmakers.
However, just recently, Mark Wahlberg ("Ted", "Lone Survivor") who played the role of Cade Yeager in the latest installment positively believes that the forthcoming sequel will still be helmed by the 50-year-old director.
In an interview with Collider, Wahlberg positively expressed his belief in Bay directing "Tranformers 5". The 44-year-old actor-producer however, was not certain about when filming for the upcoming sequel will commence. "But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I'm in New Orleans shooting Deepwater," he said. "We'll get together when he gets back."
Wahlberg's claim contradicts with the earlier speculations that the director is not returning to the franchise anymore. According to Master Herald, there have been reports that Bay tapped 2014 "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" reboot director Jonathan Liebesman to take over the directorial duties in "Transformers 5".
Regardless if he's returning to the director's chair or not, Bay will still be on board as the executive producer of the franchise's fifth installment.
The director for the highly anticipated "Tranformers 5" will likely be revealed by Paramount Pictures once Akiva Goldsman and his team which includes Jeff Pickner ("The Amazing Spider-Man 2," "Fringe," "Lost") , Zack Penn ("X-Men: The Last Stand," and "Pacific Rim 2") , Robert Kirkman ("Iron Man") and Matt Holloway ("The Walking Dead"), have finished writing the script.
Though there is no specific date announced yet, "Transformers 5" is expected to hit the big screen in 2017.
