"Justice League: Gods and Monsters" Update: Bruce Timm Reveals Silver Age Version of Flash and Green Lantern As Film's Inspiration

By

Bruce Timm's upcoming DC Comics heroes' direct-to-video film "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" is already nearing its July 28, 2015 premiere. To stir up the fans' excitement, the veteran animator has revealed his inspiration behind his all-new and all-different superheroes -the Silver Age version of the Flash and Green Lantern back in the mid '50s.

The 54-year-old animation veteran is well-known for being one of the minds behind some of 90's and early 00's DC Universe cartoons like "Batman: The Animated Series," "Batman Beyond" and "Justice League". Bruce Timm's works have been defined as the iconic superheroes for that generation of TV watchers. Now, he is about to introduce the same heroes with all-new and all-different realties for the new generation.

Timm might be bringing newly defined heroes but his concept behind the forthcoming "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" came from old sources. In a phone call with MTV News, he revealed that the changes in his characters were inspired from the Silver Age version of Flash and Green Lantern that was first brought in mid '50s.

"They basically kept the name and the basic gimmick of the Golden Age versions of those characters but then threw everything else out," he said. "They had new origin stories, their powers worked differently, they had new costumes. They even had new alter egos."

According to him, those alterations were exciting which made him do exactly the same to DC's big three: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman. "But it got me thinking about it - okay, if I was going to do that, what would I do with those characters? If I wasn't going to make them Kal El and Diana and Bruce Wayne, who would they be?" he explained.

Now, Timm has come up with the same characters but with different backgrounds -way different from what its fans has come to know and love. As per Movie Pilot's report, Batman in this film is no longer Bruce Wayne but Dr. Robert "Kirk" Langstorm, a.k.a, the Man-Bat. Wonder Woman was born as Bekka or New Genesis instead of being Diana of Themyscira/Paradise Island; and Superman was the son of Zod, his traditional enemy.

According to Realty Today, Michael Hall ("Dexter"), Tamara Taylor ("Bones") and Benjamin Bratt ("Law and Order") will play the roles of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman respectively.

Three exciting webisodes were released to build up Timm's forthcoming feature film "Justice League: Gods and Monsters" which is set to debut this summer, July 28.
