There seems to be a big chance that Xiaomi might delay the release of their next flagship devices, the Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus, due to the on-going overheating issue of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC.
Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus release date might be delayed
"Earlier this month, we passed along a report that the Xiaomi Mi5 and Xiaomi Mi5 Plus would both feature the Snapdragon 820 chipset under their respective hoods. While this would seem to eliminate any problems generated by the Snapdragon 810, the Mi5 and Mi5 Plus could both be delayed until the Snapdragon 820 is ready to ship in numbers," reported Phone Arena.
Snapdragon 810 for Xiaomi Mi 5 and 820 for Mi 5 Plus?
There were also other reports that said that the Xiamo Mi 5 might have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 while the Mi 5 Plus would sport the Snapdragon 820.
"Additional reports started coming in saying that the company intends to replace the Snapdragon 810 with Snapdragon 820 due to overheating issues that were mentioned so many times thus far. Well, according to a new report from China, Xiaomi might opt to use the Snapdragon 810 in the Mi 5, and the Snapdragon 820 in the Mi 5 Plus," noted Androidheadlines.com.
It is still uncertain which chip would Xiaomi choose to sport in their upcoming flagships. Considering the issue that is pointing the Qualcomm chip, the Chinese company might use the 820, though at the expense of the release date. Nevertheless, it is best to wait for Xiaomi's official announcement.
Flagship slayer of 2015: Snapdragon 810
There are already devices that generated extreme heat due to the 810 SoC built within them. An example was the HTC J Butterfly that sports the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. It should be noted that various users are reporting poor battery life and an "unresponsive touchscreen" in the HTC handset. But on top of that, the chip is also causing the J Butterfly to overheating, adding another disadvantage to it.
"...sources in Taiwan write that the HTC J Butterfly is plagued by the same overheating issues as most other flagships powered by the SD 810, which doesn't really help its case given earlier reports on poor battery life and touchscreen response issues," cited G for Games.
One Phone Arena reader, letosaw, commented about the 810 SoC. He said, "Flagship slayer of 2015 : Snapdrgaon 810."
As far as rumors about the Xiaomi Mi 5 and Mi 5 Plus are concerned, it wise to take them with a grain of salt.
