Xiaomi is said to sport the Mi5 and Mi5 Plus with the latest Snapdragon 820 as well as metal bodies and bezel-less designs. Both devices are speculated to be released on November in order to rival the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
Upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 is now rumored to sport Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, which is expected to address overheating issues in the Snapdragon 810. Not only that, the Chinese company is also said to release a 6-inch version of the Mi5, to be called as Xiaomi Mi5 Plus, and will also have the latest Snapdragon chipset.
"The two phones are reportedly going to be among the first devices to be powered by Qualcomm's upcoming flagship chipset - the Snapdragon 820, which will hopefully come with a fix for the reported overheating issues that have bugged the current generation flagship, the Snapdragon 810. The new SoC, which saw a low-key release from Qualcomm at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona earlier this year, is said to use the 14nm FinFET (Fin-Shaped Field Effect Transistor) process, and will reportedly start shipping later this year," reports cited through Xiaomi Today.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will have a 5.2-inch 2D glass and 1440 x 2560 display resolution. Xiaomi is also said to offer "two variants of the phone."
"One will carry 3GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage, while the other will feature 4GB of RAM paired with 64GB of internal memory. A 16MP camera adorns the back of the unit, and a fingerprint scanner is included," reported Phone Arena.
Both will also be powered by 3000 mAh battery and will just measure 6.1 mm thick, which is slimmer than the 6.9 mm. Apple iPhone 6. The thickness is said to be the "biggest change" that the company made for their flagship devices.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi5 Plus will sport the same resolution as the Mi5 and will offer 4 GB of RAM, and a 20 MP rear camera.
As for the release date, previous reports cited a leaked roadmap of the roll dates of Xiaomi's devices. It was revealed that the Chinese company is bound to launch the Xiaomi Mi5 on November. However, the Mi5 Plus was not mentioned and could possibly not materialize.
"The November launch of the Mi 5 might be planned to counter new Apple iPhone sales that usually begin by mid-October and are at the peak during November. It's worth mentioning that the leaked roadmap doesn't mention any details about Mi 5 Plus hinting that smartphone might be just a rumour and won't materialize," said NDTV Gadgets.
If Xiaomi does release Mi5 and Mi5 Plus, it is worth noting how both devices would rival the Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus in China, especially that Xiaomi is considered as "China's Apple."
In terms of the price, the Mi5 is estimated to cost at least US$371.
Nevertheless, these should be taken with a grain of salt as Xiamo is yet to make official statements.
