'American Crime' Season 2 Update: Regina King Returns As A Series Regular, Upcoming Second Season Premieres In 2016

A casting update regarding the ABC hit drama series entitled "American Crime" has been revealed and it includes Regina King. King will be coming back for the show's second season and will be a series regular.

In a report by Christian Post, "American Crime" Season 2 will still be having Regina King as the actress playing the character of Aliyah Shadeed. In "American Crime" Season 1, Aliyah is an Islam convert and she will be coming back not to reprise the same role as the second season of the show will be a total reset. She will be coming back together with other series regulars namely Felicity Huffman, who plays the role of Barbara Hanlon, and Timothy Hutton, who plays the role of Russ Shokie.

"American Crime" series creator John Ridley said in a statement that he and co-creator Michael McDonald are more than excited to have King back for the second season of the show. They pointed out that she has a phenomenal acting talent. King's character will be the center of a story that deals with sexuality, societal boundaries and physicality that was already presented on "American Crime" Season 1.

The show speaks about race and faith and Ridley pointed out that they have been blessed with the opportunity to tackle such unlike other shows. Season 2 will be dealing with gender issues, sexual orientation and identity. The second season will be tackling an entire new story that will be taking place in a preparatory school somewhere in the Midwest. The ABC show will be a different crime and placed in a different location in the United States, Entertainment Weekly reported.

"American Crime" Season 1 followed the murder in Modesto, California. Season 2 will start filming this coming July and it will be premiering sometime in 2016, Deadline shared.
