'Tales of Berseria' screenshots posted online by Bandai Namco; images show game protagonist and some environments

After their announcement of the roleplaying game (RPG) "Tales of Berseria" for the PlayStation 3 and 4, Bandai Namco has posted the first screenshots of the game online.

The "Tales of Berseria" screenshots feature a first glimpse at the protagonist Velvet, who wakes up after an incident took place three years prior to the start of the game. An Anime News Network post said that "Tales of Berseria" will also be the first time that a female protagonist will be the main feature of the game.

According to Bandai, the character of Velvet was designed by Mutsumi Inomata, and voiced by Rina Satou. Satou herself was a surprise guest at the recent "Tales of Festival 2015" event in Tokyo, where the game was first introduced.

Some of the screenshots also show the environments of the game's setting, a kingdom called Midgand. Midgand is composed of several large landmasses and archipelagos, and has extreme climate variations between locations. The screenshots show these, with images of tropical islands, snowy cities, and woodlands in autumn.

The description of the game also identified Midgand as being experts in the art of sailing and ship handling, and in fact, a couple of the screenshots, including the one showing Velvet, shows galleon- or pirate-style ships.

"Tales of Berseria" is still in active development, and so far is for Japan release only, so there is no news about whether or not it will reach North American gamers. However, some games in the "Tales" series have all been successfully ported stateside, such as "Tales of Xilia 2", while another game, "Tales of Zesteria" is set to follow, so there is a very good chance that the game will indeed make it abroad.

"Tales of Berseria" is the sixteenth title overall in the "Tales of" series from Bandai. Further information will be posted once it is made available.
