Another shark attack movie is coming to the movies soon in the form of horro director Eli Roth's "Meg", a novel-adaptation about a deadly shark which has been in progress for about 20 years now. The said movie is looking to beat "Jurassic World" in the box office.

MEGA SHARK

"Meg" is an adaptation of the 1997 novel "Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror" by Steven Alten, New York Times Best Seller. The Guardian reports that "Meg", a Warner Bros. picture, was originally a Disney film that is already almost 20 years in development. In fact, directors Guillermo del Toro (Pacific Rim) and Jan de Bont (Speed) were among those interested in the project at some time.

Disney backed out in financing the film after the failure of the 1999 movie "Deep Blue Sea". Warner Bros. took over after producers decided to change some of the setting from California to the Chinese waters in order to attract more moviegoers in the said country with the world's largest population.

BIGGER SHARK, BIGGER MOVIE

"Meg" is expected to be a much improved version of Steven Spielberg's "Jaws" in 1979 such that it is said that the new movie shows how much the industry has grown since the 1970s. In fact, "Meg" is hoped to outdo Universal's recent "Jurassic World" which broke the record for the biggest box-opening last weekend.

Among other Roth's movies are The Stranger, Fast times, Knock Knock starring Keanu Reeves which premiered in the recent Sundance Festival, and The Green Inferno which is showing on September 25. Variety reports Roth will also swim with sharks for the Shark Week starting July 5th and host Discovery Channel's "Shark after Dark".

The title "Meg" comes from the female megalodon shark, about 60 feet long, which is larger than the modern great white shark. Business Standard adds that in the movie, after 2.6 m years, Meg, which is believed to have become extinct, surfaces from the Mariana Trench and attacks people.

Eli Roth's "Meg" will be a jaw-dropping and teeth clenching movie. Fans could only hope that it will not just be superb in effects but in story as well.
