Nintendo apparently went back on their decision to show footage of the new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U because of delays.
In an interview with IGN, Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime said the decision to hold off on showing the footage was ultimately made when it was clear that the game could not be released within the next holiday season leading all the way up to the first half of next year.
Fils-Aime added that because of the delays it became clear that the Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U was now no longer a 2015 project. News of Nintendo having footage of the Legend of Zelda game primed and ready to go for E3 first came from Shigeru Miyamoto, according to Wii U Daily. Miyamoto even went on record to say that fans could indeed expect the game to show up at E3.
Despite the notable absence of the Legend of Zelda at E3, Nintendo and Fils-Aime in particular remain confident that there are still plenty of good opportunities for them to show off the great footage they have been keeping under wraps, according to Gamer Center Online.
Fils-Aime also reiterated that the footage they have on hand is high quality. He said that fans will be pleased once the footage does indeed come out.
When asked whether Nintendo is concerned that their actions at E3 differed from what Miyamoto had gone on record to say prior to the event, Fils-Aime said he believes that the two sides are very much on the same page. For now, the only certainty coming out of Nintendo's decision not to show the footage of Legend of Zelda at E3 is that the game is still a ways away from being released.
The new Legend of Zelda game for the Wii U is now expected to be released in 2016.
