Xbox made headlines at E3 after announcing that Xbox One would now be able to support backwards compatibility for some Xbox 360 games.
The decision to outfit the console with its newfound versatility is in part to help give more gamers a choice according to Xbox Boss Phil Spencer.
In an interview with Giant Bomb, Spencer said he wants the Xbox One to give players the chance to basically choose how they want to experience their favorite games, according to WCCF Tech.
Backwards compatibility certainly does give players more options to choose from.
For now though, not all of the games available for the Xbox 360 are going to run on the Xbox One.
It's unclear just how many Xbox 360 titles Microsoft is going to make available for its current-gen console, but what's clear is that the company is going to have the final say and whatever those games might ultimately be.
One giant obstacle in terms of backwards compatibility involves multi-disc games for the Xbox 360, according to Cinema Blend. With Microsoft still in the early stages of trying to figure out how to even just translate single-disc games, it's not at all presumptive to say that multi-disc games are probably still a ways off into the future.
Problems have also been popping up with some of the titles that have already been made backwards compatible, according to Breitbart.
One particular example is the original Mass Effect game. While the game itself does look and run better for the most part on the Xbox One than it does on the 360, some are saying that there are particular points in the game where the performance truly suffers.
Particularly in scenes featuring a lot of action, Mass Effect running on the Xbox One was seen to have been performing 30 percent slower than its 360 counterpart.
It's clear Microsoft still has some things to iron out before the backwards compatibility feature can be deemed a success.
