With its dark theme and anti-hero lead character, comic book creator creator Rob Liefeld has compared the tone of the forthcoming live-action adaptation of "Deadpool" to that of the flicks of the indie director, Quentin Tarantino. Confirmed to be Rated-R, the new superhero film is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2016.
Rob Liefeld, creator of the "Merc with the Mouth", has recently discussed the upcoming movie adaptation of his superhero character "Deadpool" at the Amazing Las Vegas Comic Coon this weekend. According to Cinema Blend, while talking about the film's R-rating, the 47-year-old comic book creator has cited "The Hateful Eight" helmer, Quentin Tarantino, as someone who is a fit for the superhero flick.
"Deadpool's pretty hardcore," he said. "When I first read it, I thought 'This is the voice of Tarantino in a comic book movie,' which is perfect because Deadpool is more crime-oriented, action-oriented, obviously, and Tarantino has got a great sense of humor."
It was already noted that the movie will have a darker theme compared to other superhero films and will be laced with a twisted sense of humor. As per International Business Times' report, Deadpool's character in the comics is a disfigured and mentally unstable mercenary. He is known to be naturally talkative which is why he was nicknamed as "Merc with a mouth". His character is also notable for carrying a device which enables him to teleport and have holographic disguise abilities.
The upcoming adaptation will follow the story of Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary, who gains healing capabilities after being experimented. With his new powers and a dark, twisted sense of humor, he adopts the alter ego "Deadpool" and hunts the person who almost ruined his life.
"Green Lantern" actor Ryan Reynolds will star as the titular superhero alongsideT J Miller ("Transformers: Age of Extinction", "Big Hero 6") as Weasel, Gina Carano ("Haywire", "Fast and Furious 6") as Angel Dust, Brianna Hildebrand ("Prism") as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Morena Baccarin ("Gotham", "Serenity") as Copycat and Ed Skrein ("The Transporter: Refueled", "Northmen: A Viking Saga") as Ajax.
Directed by Tim Miller based on a screenplay from "Zombieland" writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, "Deadpool" is slated to open in cinemas February 12, 2016.
