Leonard and Penny will be in a chilly mood while the future of Sheldon and Amy 's relationship remains uncertain as "The Big Bang Theory" enters its ninth season. Showrunner Steve Molaro is set to highlight every relationship in the show and dishes on Mayim Bialik's attachment to the show.
It seems "The Big Bang Theory" season 9 is going for a dramatic season as it will focus on the conflicts between the couples of the show. Showrunner Steve Molaro did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter and teased some interesting things in store next season.
When asked about the state of Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and Penny's (Kaley Cuoco) relationship come season 9, Molaro said that the two is in a very interesting place. He is also hoping that the fans of the two will tune in next season to find out what the couple will do once they reached Las Vegas.
However, the most talked about couple on the show is Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) following their "breakup" during last season's finale. There were speculations that Bialik won't be a series regular anymore since she rarely appeared towards the end of season 8. But Molaro was quick to clarify that the actress is still very much attached to the show.
"Mayim, on a personal level, had some family things she needed to take care of. That was the only reason she was light in those episodes. She's not going anywhere," said the showrunner.
Whether the odd couple has really broken up or not, Mayim Bialik herself advised the fans to not speculate too much, reports International Business Times.
"People want to jump to all sorts of conclusions," Bialik said, "Because it's super-exciting to do so and they love these characters and they know them."
She continues, "But the neat thing about our show ... and Jim and my character's relationship is that anything can happen. And I think the finale was proof of that."
We previously reported that the actress-neuroscientist personally thinks that her character and Sheldon did not really break up, which is somehow good news for the fans of the couple.
There are so many things to watch out for when "The Big Bang Theory" season 9 premieres on CBS this fall. Relationships will be tested, which may actually be a way to see the other sides of the beloved characters.
