The "Fantastic Four-X-Men" crossover has been in the internet rumor mill for a few years now and after laying low for a while, the speculation has sprung up again. This time, Fox is reportedly planning for the two franchises to share the same screen for a 2018 feature.
It looks like Fox is planning to develop its own version of Marvel Cinematic Universe with its long list of films slated to release consecutively in the next few years. Following its reboot of the "Fantastic Four" and its expansion of the "X-Men" franchise which according to Cinema Blend is slated to debut three more titles, Fox is now rumored to make a crossover which features both films in 2018.
It was that the studio has locked down a bunch of release dates for its future slate of flicks which includes a mystery Marvel movie scheduled to premiere in July 13, 2018. Though there is no confirmation yet regarding what project exactly this will be, Latino Review claims that this might be the long-running rumored crossover of two of its superhero franchises. The plan, however, still depends on the success of Josh Trank's forthcoming reboot of "Fantastic Four" as well as Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse".
According to Slashfilm, no further details have been hinted so it is uncertain whether the two groups are teaming up or battling each other. Similar to the talks before, this is a mere speculation also which Latino Review notes to be "far from a done deal."
However, considering the big moneymaking trend of shared universes, Fox might possibly consider this suggestion. Marvel is collaborating with Sony to bring back Spider-Man in the big screen and introduce him in the MCU fold, while Warner Bros. and DC is already in the starting line of its own DCU with its forthcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice".
In the meantime, Fox is gearing up for its reboot of "Fantastic Four" which is due to open in August 7, as well as "X-Men: Apocalypse" which is expected to hit the big screen May 27, next year.
