Emma Watson will be playing the lead role in the upcoming film, The Circle opposite Tom Hanks. The 25-year old actress will be playing a recent college graduate caught in a web of intrigue of an Internet monopoly.
According to a report with Deadline, The Circle, will be delivering to filmgoers everywhere the message of the dangers of the Internet in the modern age. Watson plays a young woman called Mae, who is hired by an Internet monopoly called The Circle. Her job is to link online users' personal emails, social media accounts, online banking, and purchasing by making use of their universal operating system. This would ultimately result in one online identity bringing about a new age of civility and transparency.
Tom Hanks will not only star in the movie, he will be producing the film as well.
Emma Watson is set to bring her electric energy to the upcoming project. The British actress already has a full schedule as it is, with the live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast which is fast becoming one of Emma's highly anticipated projects.
Variety further reports that James Ponsoldt, who will be directing the film has nothing but praise for Emma. The director has come to admire the young woman's talent and tenacity.
"Emma Watson is one of my favorite actors, and her incredible talent, sensitivity, and deep intelligence will bring an electric energy to The Circle," Ponsoldt said.
Filming for the project will reportedly start in California in September of this year. The film has a target release date for 2016.
Besides Beauty and the Beast, Emma will be working with producer David Heyman in an adaptation of the fantasy series Queen of the Tearling.
