‘Uncharted 4’ Update: Naughty Dog scraps eight months of work; Voice actor Nolan North cites creative direction as reason

By

Voice actor Nolan North let slip a few detailed hints on the implications of writer Amy Hennig leaving the "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" team and Naughty Dog Studios.

North, who plays series protagonist Nathan Drake, said that following Hennig's departure, Naughty Dog decided to start from scratch, setting back the game's development by about eight months as reported by IGN. In a Q and A panel at the 2015 MetroCon Anime convention in Tampa, North explain the actions as such. "We had shot 8 months of her story and it was all thrown away. The Last of Us guys came in, and you have to understand, new producers, new people, they want to do it."

Hennig left Naughty Dog last year after ten years with the company, and is now working with Electronic Arts and Visceral Games on their unannounced Star Wars project. Insider rumors at the time of her departure suggest that The Last of Us creative leads Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann had a hand in her ouster.

According to VG24/7, North maintains that he is still friends with the former Naughty Dog creative head, and had nothing but good words to say about Hennig. "She's gone to EA and is going to reboot a brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted," he says, "it's gonna be awesome."

North was also excited about some of the changes that happened to "Uncharted 4" since Straley and Druckmann took charge as creative leads. During the MetroCon Q and A, he mentioned the rapport that he had built with Troy Baker, who played Nathan Drake's brother, commending it as a great move on the part of the developers. "They knew that was going to work because Troy and I are friends. He had done Joel, and they knew he and I had good rapport," North said. "So it'll be fun."
