"Underworld" actress Kate Beckinsale's latest crime film, "The Face of An Angel", gains average ratings and mixed reviews from critiques after it premiered on June 19.
Days after Kate Beckinsale confirmed her return as the Death Dealer and Vampire-Corvinus Strain hybrid Selene for the yet to be titled fifth installment of the "Underworld" franchise, her other movie project, "The Face of an Angel" has premiered. The British psychological thriller, according to Coming Soon, is based on the real-life story of Amanda Knox, who was accused of murdering Meredith Kercher back in November 2007.
Beckinsale's other films, particularly the popular vampire versus werewolf franchise "Underworld" might have been well-received by the public, but it seems like this new crime drama flick ended up with a different reception. As per Christianity Daily's report, Robert Ebert has scored "The Face of an Angel" with 1.5 out of 4 while IMDb rated it 5.3/10 based on the reviews of 468 users.
The newly premiered movie also gained a Metascore of 37, in accordance to the reviews of 16 critics, which contained 2 positive reviews, 8 mixed reviews and 6 negative reviews. Rotten Tomatoes has also rated the film 43% based on its Tomatometer with an average rating of 5.2/10 based on its 40 reviews.
"The Face of An Angel" runs for an hour and 21 minutes and stars Beckinsale as Simone Ford (Barbie Latza Nadeu) an American journalist based in Rome, Italy, and Thomas. Also appeared on the film were, Daniel Brühl ("Rush", Inglorious Basterds") as Thomas (Michael Winterbottom), Cara Delevingne ("Paper Towns", "Pan") as Melanie, Genevieve Gaunt ("Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban") as Jessica Fuller (Amanda Knox), Ava Acres as Bea, Sai Bennett as Elizabeth Pryce (Meredith Kercher), Rosie Fellner as Katherine, John Hopkins as Joe, Peter Sullivan as James Pryce, Alistair Petrie as Steve, Corrado Invernizzi as Francesco, Valerio Mastandrea as Edoardo, Andrea Tidona as Pubblico Ministero, Austin Spangler as Timothy, and Ranieri Menicori as Carlo Elias.
In related news, Beckinsale will star next on the upcoming "Underworld 5" that is rumored to premiere on 2017 alongside "Divergent" franchise actor Theo James.
"The Face of an Angel" is helmed by Michael Winterbottom based on the screenplay written by Paul Viragh. Melissa Parmenter produced the film with BBC Films, Cattleya, Multitrade, Revolution Films, Vedette Finance, and Ypsilon Films.
