Jodi Arias, the infamous killer of Travis Alexander, is ordered to pay $32,000 to the victim's family. This was less than half of what the family asked from the convicted murderer. Because of the lengthy trial, Alexander's family has now asked to reimburse the expenses incurred within that same period.
According to NBC News, Arias is mandated to pay the Alexanders a hefty amount of $32,153.63. The amount was to compensate the costs brought about by the trial. This includes transportation, lodging and the likes. During the hearing last Monday, Arias and the Alexanders were not seen in the court. The family of Travis decided not to go as they believe they have suffered enough.
Based from the report of Arias' lawyer, the ordered amount by the court is about one third of the actual amount that the family requested. Originally, they wanted to have around $100,000. However, the family was not able to provide receipts and that was one of the reasons for the decrease in the restitution. Based from USA Today, Samantha Alexander, Tanisha Sorenson, Hilary Wilcox, Stephen Alexander and Dennis Alexander will receive different amounts. This ranges from $200 to $15,000.
However, it is quite impossible for the Alexanders to be able to get the money from Arias, as shared by People. According to her lawyer, Arias does not have means to produce that amount of money. It is very rare that the families of the victims would be able to get the money that the court ordered from the convicted.
Meanwhile, Arias still has a lot of supporters and some of them have already created websites appealing to overturn the life sentencing of the convicted murder. There are speculations that Arias' followers would raise money in order to cover the restitution.
Jodi Arias was charged with murder after brutally killing Travis Alexander. She was firm that she has been a victim of domestic violence and that her action was just a result of self defense.
