The long-awaited film adaptation of the popular historical game "Assassin's Creed" might have lost the award-winning "Ex Machina" star, Alicia Vikander, but the upcoming film seems to be filling up that spot with a new yet another critically acclaimed actress, Ariane Labed. The upcoming movie is slated to hit the big screen December, next year.
As previously reported, Alicia Vikander was rumored to star alongside his boyfriend Michael Fassbender ("X-Men" and "Macbeth") in the upcoming live-action adaptation of "Assassin's Creed". However, the "Ex Machina" actress has recently decided to pass both on the said movie and another project entitled "The Circle" due to scheduling difficulties. The fans of the popular game "Assassin's Creed" might still be disappointed with the loss of an A-list celebrity in the cast of the forthcoming movie adaptation, but Ubisoft Motion Pictures looks like replacing her spot with a new, yet another award-winning actress.
Ariane Labed has recently joined the cast of the film which is initially titled as "Assassin's Creed: The Movie". Though her role is still under the wraps, rumors suggest that she is playing the same role, Vikander was supposed to play. This would be the highest-profile role yet for the 31-year-old Greek-born French actress who was noted by Deadline to have already won numerous awards for her work. She is known to have won the Best Actress title in Venice a few years back for her performance in Athina Rachel Tsangari's "Attenberg". She also won the Locarno Best Actress award last year for her work in Lucia Borleteau's "Fidelio" and Alice's "Odyssey".
Having sold over 91 million units of the "Assassin's Creed" video game, New Regency and Ubisoft are expecting a lot from its upcoming film adaptation. According to Coming Soon, its production is scheduled to start this September for a December 21, 2016 release. Apart from Fassbender and Labed, Marion Cotillard ("The Dark Knighr Rises" and "Macbeth") will also appear in the upcoming movie.
The film will be helmed by "Macbeth" director Justin Kurzel for 20th Century Fox, based on the script written by Bill Collage, Adam Cooper and Michael Lesslie. Frank Marshall, Arnon Milchan, Jean-Julien Baronnet, Conor McCaughan, and Pat Crowley are producing alongside Fassbender.
