Inside the Fallout 4 Vault: Todd Howard on building Fallout 4's Boston world; Will Bethesda have another award-winning game in their hands?

When news came out last month that Fallout 4 was finally happening and that it was happening this year, the gaming community went berserk. Fallout 4 is scheduled to be released on November10 for PC, Xbox One and PS4 this year. The game will be the fifth installment to the Fallout series following Bethesda's critically acclaimed 2008 release of Fallout 3. Back then, Bethesda assured fans that acquiring the rights to the game meant that they are enthusiastic in creating successive titles to the Fallout series. Bethesda has honored that statement so far.

Bethesda announced last month that Fallout 4 is set for a scheduled release. Fans were enthusiastic, albeit skeptical about the news, that the developer's decision might be somewhat premature. The premature idea has since been defunked at Bethesda's E3 2015. Fallout 4 Game Director Todd Howard admits that the energy and reception for Fallout 4 has been nothing short of exciting. Howard states in an E3 interview with Digital Spy that Fallout 4 has been in development since 2008 which "started right after Fallout 3" . When the game concept was already "in a vault", the developing Boston world of Fallout 4 started to take shape. Maps, features, technology and hardware were mere details that needed to be filled.

Given the scale of developing open world games, technical issues will always be an issue with developers. Howard sheds light on these issues via Game Informer, citing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a blueprint in identifying technical problems in an open world environment. "There will always be problems," Howard states. The game director admits that his team took "a month or two before we really had a handle on it". Finding a system to identify the problem was a large hurdle that the team had to pull through, after which was only a matter of time before a process builds to avoid the same issues for future releases like Fallout 4.

The behemoth that was Fallout 3 was so well crafted that it has picked up several Game of the Year awards from gaming journalists and websites since its initial release in 2008. Bethesda's E3 debut punctuated with Fallout 4 details were enough for fans of the game to relive the devastated Capital Wasteland of post nuclear apocalypse culminating in the fictional Sino-American war of 2077. For a limited time only, Fallout 4 pre-orders for Xbox One will receive copies of Fallout 3 for Xbox 360. Info and pre-order details can be found at the official Bethesda blog.

Bethesda Softworks' Fallout 4 is scheduled for release on November 10, 2015 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 gaming consoles.
