Angelina Jolie believes she is better off in the director's seat than in front of the camera. Where does this leave the makers of "Maleficent?" While Disney might already be working on the second chapter of the Sleeping Beauty remake, it is still unclear whether the movie will have the actress wear the iconic horns and costume again since she is determined to give up acting to give way for her directing career.
As previously reported, Disney has already greenlighted the development of the sequel to the 2013 blockbuster live-action flick "Maleficent", with "Alice in the Wonderland" writer Linda Woolverton reined to do the scriptwriting duties. However, Angelina Jolie, who played the iconic character of the titular complex sorceress, has still not confirmed her return in the highly anticipated movie.
Even though Woolverton has been updating the 40-year-old actress on the script, Jolie is yet to accept the role for the upcoming "Maleficent 2". Crossmap notes that she is not the type to do sequels. In fact, Jolie has already turned down offers to do follow-up films to her previously-starred flicks such as the 2010 thriller spy film "Salt", and the 2008 comic action thriller "Wanted".
Apart from that, she has also recently expressed in an interview with DuJour Magazine her desire to make films rather than appear on them saying "I've never been comfortable as an actor; I've never loved being in front of the camera." According to her, she did not expect that she could helm films but she is really hopeful to have a career at it because it is where she is much happier. When asked whether her plan was to give up acting entirely, the actress concretely answered "Absolutely."
Despite this, she has clarified that there are more projects in the horizon for her before she steps behind the camera for good. "I see myself moving into directing more and doing much less as an actor," she told Entertainment Weekly. "I have a few more in me, ones I have been developing for some time, so I will do those before I step away."
Now Disney can now only hope that "Maleficent 2" is one of the projects, Jolie has mentioned in the interview. For the meantime, the actress is currently committed to the upcoming film"By the Sea", which she co-stars in with husband Brad Pitt. She's also speculated to be reprising her voice role in the third Kung Fu Panda film.
