'Superman' Solo Movie Update: Henry Cavill Not Getting Stand-Alone Superhero Film Anytime Soon

By

Those who are hoping to see Superman in another stand-alone film will likely have to wait a little longer. While Ben Affleck is getting a solo "Batman" movie after his appearance on DC's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", Henry Cavill is not getting one anytime soon. The British actor will next appear in the big screen with his red and blue costume when "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters March next year.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill expressed his confidence in the possibility of another solo film once an expansive universe comes together. "There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels," he tells the outlet. "He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand." According to him, more stories about the character of the superhero could be hopefully told once DC has already established a wider universe.

It was noted by Movie Web that when Warner Bros has unveiled their slate of DC Comics live-action superhero films, a stand-alone adventure for Cavill's red-caped hero was not included. According to the site, the studio is expected to release 2 movies yearly from 2016 until 2020, including both "Justice League Part One" which will open in November 2017 and "Justice League Part Two" in June 2019.

As previously reported Cavill will next appear to the big screen in his red and blue costume in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". It follows the collusion between Batman and Superman, and the new threat that quickly arises, which puts mankind in greater danger than it's ever known before.

Aside from Affleck, the film will also star Gal Gadot ("Furious 6"), Amy Adams ("American Hustle", "Big Eyes"), Laurence Fishburne ("The Matrix", "Hannibal") and Diane Lane ("Unfaithful", "Nights in Rodanthe") returning from "Man of Steel", Jeremy Irons ("The Borgias") as Alfred, and Holly Hunter ("Saving grace", "The Incredibles") in a role newly created for the film. Jason Momoa ("Game of Thrones") will also be making an appearance as Aquaman, alongside Grant Gustin ("Glee") as the Flash.

It is directed by Zack Snyder and written by Chris Terrio, based on David S. Goyer's screenplay. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder produced the film with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" is scheduled to open worldwide on March 25, 2016.
