There's a glorious new Risk board game coming out this August. The newly unveiled Risk Game of Thrones Edition is a collector's edition through and through. In the age of digital technology and gaming consoles, special edition board games are a true gem and a wonder to behold.
The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy give exclusive details of the game with set pictures of the pieces included in the game for the suggested retail price of $ 74.94. The Risk Game of Thrones Edition is created by USAopoly under license from Hasbro in partnership with HBO and comes with more than 650 pieces containing seven sculpted armies with seven player boards including Houses Stark, Baratheon, Lannister and Targaryen, two custom game boards that lay the map for the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and the Nine Free Cities of Essos, 28 character cards that give players access to special boosts, Maester cards that lends battle boosts, quest cards, and Dragon Coins for added player wealth.
Gameplay more or less follows the classic Risk with a Game of Thrones makeover. The additional board with the map of Essos makes for an aggressive 2-player game reflecting Daenerys Targaryen's quest to free the slaves from their Ghiscari oppressors. The War of Five Kings is played on the larger map for 3 to 5 players, and combining the two completes the seven Noble Houses of the Known World vying for the Iron Throne. Game of Thrones also has a Monopoly Game of Thrones Collectors Edition that was also unveiled earlier this year.
Game of Thrones ended Season 5 with a bang, and have fans and critics alike talking about it in the aftermath of its glory. For hardcore fans though, it's a bit agonizing to wait for the next A Song of Ice and Fire installment to come out when Season 6 of the HBO series is already in the works. The hopes of a Winds of Winter release this year are futile, but illustrated prequel novellas scheduled to be released in October. Until then, have a go at Risk Game of Thrones Edition and scratch that geeky Westeros itch.
