New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have recently handed the writing duties for the next draft of the movie adaptation "Splinter Cell" to Frank John Hughes. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, the action-thriller will star "Mad Max: Fury Road" actor Tom Hardy as lead operative Sam Fisher.
The project might have lost its director, a few months back but that did not stop the project to move forward. Recently, the live-action adaptation of "Splinter Cell" has taken another step closer to the big screen after New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have found a writer for its next draft. Deadline reports that the studios have set actor-screenwriter Frank John Hughes to pen the next draft of the highly anticipated video game-based movie.
Hughes is well-known for his acting career which mostly involves action flicks. Comic Book Resources notes that the 47-year-old actor has appeared from movies to TV shows, including Fox's espionage thriller "24", Michael Bay's action-comedy "Bad Boys", and HBO's miniseries "Band of Brothers". He most recently adapted the sci-fi novel "Shovel Ready" for Warner Bros. Now, he is set to pick up the "Splinter Cell" script duties from Eric Warren Singer ("American Hustle") and Sheldon Turner ("X-Men: First Class", "Up In The Air"), who have both turned in their own drafts.
As previously reported, the upcoming adaptation of "Splinter Cell" follows the badass Navy Seal covert operative named Sam Fisher who works in a Top Secret National Security Agency branch called the "Third Echelon". Produced by John Julian, Dave Bartis and Doug Liman, the film will star "Mad Max: Fury Road" and "Child 44" actor Tom Hardy as lead operative Sam Fisher.
Apart from "Splinter Cell", New Regency and Ubisoft are also collaborating on a live-action adaptation of the game "Assassin's Creed" which will star Michael Fassbender ("Macbeth", "X-Men: Days of the Future Past"), Marion Cotillard ("Macbeth", "Inception"), Michael K. Williams, and Ariane Labed.
