'The Magnificent Seven', a remake of John Sturges 1960s classic of the same name, is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017 after filming. As of writing, several Hollywood heavyweights including Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, and Chris Pratt have already confirmed attendance in the casting lineup while British actor Vinnie Jones is the latest to join the star-studded cast.
According to Mirror UK, an insider said, "The details of the film are being closely guarded but Vinnie is being offered a role. Someone high up at the studio suggested him and it seems to be widely agreed that he'd be a perfect addition." There is no word yet as to which side of justice he would portray - gunslinger hero or villain.
The cast has been a diverse one so far in contrast to the all-white male cast in its 1960s predecessor. In an article by Vanity Fair, the film has already begun filming last May and has filled out key character roles. Its premise is basically the same as the original version's - a group of seven gunfighters in the old west protect a small village from marauders.
The film promises to be a grand feat, beginning with casting action movie household names down to living up to a classic, highly celebrated story. In an article by Cinema Blend, some of the confirmed actors have already been cast into their respective roles. So far, there's only been one actress named to join the film making it a very testosterone-filled one.
'The Magnificent Seven' was a classic American western film from the 1960s remade from an even earlier classic by acclaimed director Akira Kurosawa called 'Seven Samurai'. It stemmed several sequels and adaptations throughout the years.
One very distinct feature of the film was its iconic Academy Award nominated theme by Elmer Bernstein, which is always referenced in popular culture. The upcoming Magnificent Seven 2017 theme is directed by Antoine Fuqua of 'The Equalizer'.
