‘Star Ocean 5: Integrity And Faithlessness’ Updates: Gameplay And Battle System Revealed, Producer Open To Creating Future Game Versions

By

Key members of the team behind "Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness" recently shared more details about the upcoming game which includes information on some of the game characters, the game's setting, series timelines, as well as a gameplay and battle system descriptions. The game's producer is also reportedly open to making future versions of the game.

Game producer Shuichi Kobayashi and Tri-Ace programmer Yoshiharu Gotanda sat down with Japanese publication 4Gamer on Tuesday, July 14, to talk about the upcoming game "Star Ocean 5: Integrity And Faithlessness," reported Gematsu. The two revealed some interesting details about the game which includes a revelation that the battle system "feels closer" to "Infinite Undiscovery" battles. However, while the battles in "Infinite Undiscovery" had an MMORPG-like complexity, "Star Ocean 5" will be touched up making it intuitively easier to play.

Other interesting information revealed by game producer Kobayashi is how the main-numbered "Star Ocean" games have a pattern going, reported Siliconera. The odd-numbered titles have protagonists with blue hair, while the even-numbered ones have blonde protagonists. The similarity of the "Star Ocean 5" title logo and character models with "Star Ocean 1" to "Star Ocean 3" is also part of a plan to let fans know that this is the game version they have been waiting for.

"Star Ocean 5" was also revealed to take place between "Star Ocean 2" and "Star Ocean 3." The producer also hinted of the story's concept said to be in the game's subtitle "Integrity and Faithlessness." Meanwhile, Tri-Ace developer Gotanda admitted that he wanted "Star Ocean 1" to be a sci-fi game. But he was told to incorporate fantasy elements to the game, given that it was the trend at that time. Gotanda reportedly abandoned his sci-fi idea.

Gearnuke also reported that Gotanda wanted to make game character Fidel older than the 23 year old character that he is now, but decided against it. It seems that having a younger Fidel is more natural and fits the game's storyline better. However, developers are against "Star Ocean 5" turning into a story of "a young man saving the world."

Finally, game producer Kobayashi revealed that he was willing to do "Star Ocean 6" and "Star Ocean 7." Kobayashi said: "As long as there's room for more new titles and the ideas for them, I have a sense of duty to keep the series going. Then again, that depends on how well Star Ocean 5 sells."

These are just some of the interesting information revealed during the 4Gamer interview. For a full list of the "Star Ocean 5" details, head on over to the Siliconera site.

"Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness" is set for release later this year in Japan and will be available for PS4 and PS3 consoles. The game is also slated for a North America and Europe release sometime 2016.
