‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Update: Ben Mendelsohn joins cast as filming starts in 2 weeks; Will he portray the Main Villain?

Actor Ben Mendelsohn of Netflix's Bloodline says he would be very pleased if a role will be officially offered to him for the upcoming sequel "Star Wars: Rogue One". The shooting for the said film will start later this summer.

While Ben Mendelsohn has yet to be officially confirmed if he will join the cast of "Star Wars: Rogue One", the actor said things are looking OK and positive, reports Deadline. The actor however stressed that it is for the movie makers to discuss. As of now, he has yet to receive a formal invitation. In case given, the actor says he would be very happy especially that he is a fan of Star Wars.

Ben Mendelsohn shared that he was 9 or 10 when he watched the first instalment and he did not have to wait in line to do so. He even had to watch the movie twice. In case Mendelsohn will be offered a role, he will join Forest Whitaker (Taken 3), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) and Sam Claflin (Hunger Games).

Slashfilm meanwhile reported that Ben Mendelsohn is expected to portray as a villain as he always does. Darth Vader is also said to appear but not as the main villain. This would mean that if ever Mendelsohn will be officially cast in the franchise, he could play as the main antagonist.

Meanwhile, Felicity Jones will portray as a rebel soldier. To join the cast are Diego Luna and Riz Ahmed who will play as rebels as well.

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One will start shooting in two weeks, in the late summer. According to IGN, the story is set between the events that took place in Episodes III and IV. It focuses on a group of rebels who steal plans for the original Death Star from the Empire.
