Did Oscar Pistorius serve the right amount of time for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp?

Valentine's Day 2013 was a dark moment for the family of Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot dead by his boyfriend Oscar Pistorius in South Africa. After serving his sentence for only eleven months, he is set to be released this August from the correctional. Many were disgusted about how short he only had to pay for the crime he had committed.

Oscar Pistorius was a South African athlete who joined official paralympic games where once he had set the world record during the Athens Paralympics in 2004. The Week reported that Pistorius was then called 'the fastest man on no legs.' His legs were amputated at an early age due to a serious injury.

In February 14, 2013, a tragic incident happened involving Oscar Pistorius. He basically killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp who was inside the bathroom. According to reports, Pistorius thought that Steenkamp was an intruder, and with that he shot the bathroom door four times. After the shooting, he broke the glass door and immediately saw that it was Steenkamp.

The South African athlete was tried, and was charged with culpable homicide, meaning that he did not kill the victim on purpose. He was sentenced five years for the crime he committed, but unfortunately for the family of Steenkamp, Oscar Pistorius will be released in August where he only served correctional for eleven months.

Pistorius will be under virtual house arrest where drugs and alcohol are certainly not allowed. When the time comes that he will be released, he will live in his uncle's house in Pretoria.

According to Health 24, Pistorius would have been given a verdict in November, where the government appeals to have him charged of murder which will lead to higher sentence. But it might not happen anymore because he will be released in August this year.

What do you think of the early release of Oscar Pistorious? Do you think the family of Reeva Steenkamp will take the house arrest of the paralymic well?
