'Green Lantern Corps' was recently revealed at San Diego Comic Con held last July 11, 2015. It will be a reboot of DC Comics Green Lantern franchise with several actors rumored to play the title role including Chris Pine. Previous star in the 2011 adaptation Ryan Reynolds confirmed that he will not be returning to reprise the leading role.
Audiences will get to see the return of the green masked crusader on the big screen once more. According to MTV News, Warner Bros. and DC Comics announced at the Hall H panel that a new Green Lantern movie is in the works.
Sources in attendance said actor Chris Pine was seen in a quick image in a lineup of the upcoming film. This, however, did not disqualify another fan favorite actor Tyrese Gibson from potentially being cast as another Green Lantern character John Stewart.
According to SuperHeroHype, the primary protagonist remains to be confirmed as there are several Green Lantern characters to choose from. The number of fictional superheroes playing Green Lantern in the DC comics range from original Alan Scott, down to more prominent Green Lanterns including John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and Simon Baz. The possibilities have proven numerous.
In the previous 2011 movie, Ryan Reynolds played Hal Jordan - a test pilot who became the first to be inducted in the intergalactic military/police force tasked to protect the universe, the Green Lantern Corps. The film received generally negative reviews from critics and audiences and became the largest second weekend decline for a superhero film for that year.
Reynolds expressed disinterest in returning to his Green Lantern role in a previous interview with Empire. He said, "It's just that... working on Green Lantern, I saw how difficult it is make that concept palatable, and how confused it all can be when you don't really know exactly where you're going with it or you don't really know how to access that world properly... So at this point I have very little interest in joining that kind of world. But, you know, a great script and a good director can always turn that around."
'Green Lantern Corps' is set to be released on June 19, 2020, according to imdb.com. It will be based on the DC comics involving a group of humans who join a universal peacekeeping force and are given power rings as weapons.
