Sony's Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 smartphones, plus its variants Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Xperia Z2 Tablet are starting to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update yesterday as Sony Mobile has officially announced the news.
Following Google Android and Sony's software mutual terms and agreement discussions, Android 5.1 Lollipop brings in "favorite goodies" at a tip of every user's finger.
Enhancements include increased customization options to give users more control over the functionality of volume, silent modes and alerts. The firmware update also features a brand new LinkedIn integration for more productivity with intuitive contact synchronization in user's Calendar.
Camera improvements also lead the pack with faster and more accurate Superior Auto Mode focus for extraordinary photographic experience regardless of conditions. With the latest office feature called Xperia in Business, enterprise support to users has been enhanced.
On top of it all, SmartWear integration helps taking selfie shots more convenient by using the SmartWatch 3 as a remote shutter button.
Sony will automatically send notification message to phone for the update. Just click the message to continue the installation and follow onscreen instructions.
To manually install the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware, head over to Settings > System Updates > Check for Updates. Then follow onscreen prompts. Make sure the battery life is over 50 percent while Wi-Fi must be used when downloading it.
Coming up next week for Android 5.1 Lollipop update are Xperia handset devices like Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia T2 Ultra, Xperia C3, Xperia Z series, Xperia M2, Xperia M2 Aqua and many more.
Sony Mobile noted in its announcement that "timing and availability may vary by market and/or carrier."
Meanwhile, reports already surfaced that Sony Japan has confirmed the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is also coming to Xperia devices shortly after the current update. Accordingly, Sony is ready for the update following the clearing from the PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB).
However, reports have to be verified still because Sony has not officially reported it somewhere.
